‘One-stop’ care website launched

Jersey Citizens Advice Bureau has launched an online directory of care services and support in the Island.

The Jersey Online Directory is aimed at the public, health professionals and charities and has been designed to be easy to use on traditional PCs and touch screen devices. An app will soon be available to make the directory accessible on mobile devices, which will enable care workers to access information when they out on calls. The Bureau (CAB) is operating the site for Health and Social Services because of its historic role as a community advice service.

CAB Chief Executive Malcom Ferey said: “This is something we were doing already to some degree in as much as people come to us for information on issues about care needs, so it was natural to integrate it with what the Bureau already does.”

The home page is simply designed to enable users to access the various services, organisations and activities available in the Island. Key words can be used to access the information, such as ‘forgetfulness’ to take the user to the entry for the Jersey Alzheimer’s Association.

Mr Ferey said: “The exciting part of the project was putting something together for Jersey that has never been done before to have a specific-facts Jersey search engine.”

For Islanders who do not have computers, the information contained in the directory will also be available by phone or from the CAB office in St Paul’s Centre.
