A terminally ill man receiving care in Jersey's hospital has died after testing positive for covid-19.
A Health Department spokesperson announced Jersey's first covid-linked death since August this evening in a statement.
It read: "We can confirm that an older male patient who had been admitted to the General Hospital for palliative care – and who was found to be positive for covid-19 (asymptomatic) as part of the Hospital screening process – has sadly passed away today.
"The patient had been awaiting transfer to the Hospice and had been receiving end-of-life care in the Hospital for non-covid related health issues.
"Our sincere condolences go to family and friends."
They added that the Government would not be commenting further in order to protect the identity of the patient.
It brings the total number of deaths of individuals with covid-19 to 33.
Of the remaining 32, half were "laboratory proven" to have covid-19, while the others were deemed "probable covid-19".
13 died at the hospital, 14 in care homes, three in St. Saviour's Hospital and two in the community.
The last individual to pass away after testing positive from the virus was a nursing home resident in their 80s.
