A 26-year-old male pedestrian has been flown to Southampton Hospital after sustaining “serious” head injuries following a road traffic collision this weekend.

Police and ambulance attended the incident – on La Route Du Fort near the junction with Beach Road in St Saviour – following reports that a car had collided with a pedestrian at around 02:15 on Sunday morning.

In an appeal for information, police officers said the pedestrian sustained “serious” head injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to hospital.

He was flown to Southampton yesterday afternoon. Police have confirmed that his condition remains stable.

A 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through careless driving.

A police spokesperson confirmed this morning the individual had been released on bail but not yet charged.

The road was closed for four hours to allow collision investigators to record the scene, but was reopened on Sunday morning at around 06:15.

Any properties with private CCTV along the section of road on La Route Du Fort, anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone driving in the area at the time with dash cam footage that could assist the police with their enquires is being asked to call the police on 612612, selecting option 3, option 4 or to call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
