Plans for former St. Peter Post Office shop front to be restored

Monday 11 July 2022

The front of the former post office and recently closed bookmaker in St. Peter will be restored to its former glory, if Planning agree.

The owner of the building, who is a property developer, plans to replicate the frontage from old black and white photos of temps passé in order to recreate a traditional Jersey store.

It is hoped that the shop front will attract a tenant in a few years’ time when the building is finished.

The old photos, including one possibly taken during the snowy winter of 1946/47, accompany the planning application.

Planning consultant Sean Osmand said: “All alterations will be carried out using traditional materials, timber signage and timber windows with slimlite double glazing, all painted."

He added that the colour scheme was yet "to be decided.”

The old post office was most recently the home of CB Sports, a bookmaker which was forced to close due to changes in the gambling industry, including the increase in online betting.
