Plans for physiotherapy clinic in finance centre building

Wednesday 23 August 2023

An empty office space in a prominent Esplanade building could become a physiotherapy clinic, if a planning application to transform the space is successful.

The space, on the ground floor of IFC5 on the Esplanade, is located next to Big Maggy’s bike shop café and Cooper’s Coffee. The floors above are occupied by company offices.

The application was made by Nigel Mann, Director and Co-founder of the Jersey Sports & Spinal Clinic, which is currently based at Island Medical Centre.

The clinic has been operating since 2007 and employs around 10 full-time staff, according to the planning application. In addition to physiotherapy, the clinic offers pilates, occupational health and sports massages.

The new space would be "a medical clinic specialising in physiotherapy and injury rehabilitation".

Plans for the new space, the rounded part of the building which faces out onto the roundabout on the Esplanade, include a gym with a cardio area, six treatment rooms, and two offices.

The suggested opening hours for the new space are Monday to Friday 07:00 to 20:00, and Saturday 08:00 to 17:00. The clinic would be closed on a Sunday.

The Infrastructure, Housing and Environment Department has made no objection to the proposal. In a comment on the planning application, officials acknowledged that clients would be able to use pre-existing roads and infrastructure, and the building can already accommodate similar numbers of people due to its use as an office.

The application – which has been graded 'Major' – will be decided at a later date.
