An 18-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault after a reported late-night attack that left a man needing hospital treatment for cuts to his face and a broken nose, Police have said in an appeal for witnesses.
Officers said an altercation was reported to have taken place between two men who did not previously know each other around 02:05 of Sunday 5 February in the alley that leads into the Royal Square from King Street, between Thompson Estates and the Pierson Pub.
One of the men was reportedly punched several times, resulting in him needing hospital treatment for some cuts to his face and a broken nose.
According to the Force, both men were with other people at the time - the injured man was with a woman and was wearing a grey fitness-style zip top, dark jeans and white trainers. The other man was accompanied by another man, and both were described as being in their early 20s, with one of them wearing a white polo shirt, dark blue jeans, a black body warmer and black trainers.
An 18-year-old was arrested later that day on suspicion of grave and criminal assault and has since been released on bail, whilst enquiries continue.
Anyone who may have seen this take place or who has any information is asked to contact Police on 612612 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their online form.
