Police close case of missing photos

The police are relying more and more on social media in their efforts to fight crime and crack cases and it’s just helped them close one that’s been puzzling them since the summer.

This photo has finally been reunited with its owner along with six others that were handed in to Police back in August.

A visitor to the Island had found them in the “gardeners” car park at Howard Davis park the day before Tom Jones took to the stage in the park.

They had been left unclaimed in the Police's Lost and Found department ever since until someone spotted a police appeal on Facebook and got in touch with the person pictured. 

Inspector Jez Payne said: “We use social media in various ways to communicate information and advice to the public, but we also use it to appeal for their help. When we do this we always get a great response and find that people are only too willing to share the appeal further or offer up information themselves.

"In this case someone spotted the photo, recognised the person pictured and contacted them to ask if they had lost these photos. The person then got in touch with us and we were able to reunite them with their photos. So a very happy ending and shows just how powerful and positive social media can be.”
