The police say that the investigation into the death of 16-year-old Morgan Huelin that ended with the conviction of five teenagers for perverting the course of justice on Thursday was complex and challenging.
The police were criticised before and during the trial for having initially arrested the five suspects on suspicion of murder, but the five convictions have vindicated their handling of the case.
In a statement released at the conclusion of Thursday's hearing, the police said that their thoughts were with Morgan's family.
The five teenagers convicted of perverting the course of justice by moving Morgan from the house where they spent the night and then lying when questioned about what had happened will be sentenced in around a month.
The police statement said: "The States of Jersey Police recognise what a difficult time this has been for all the families involved in this tragic incident, non-more so than Morgan’s family who have been supported throughout the trial by specialist Family Liaison Officers. Our thoughts continue to be with them at this time.
"Any enquiry involving the death of a child at such a young age is tragic. From the outset this has been a complex, difficult and challenging investigation for all professional agencies involved. Irrespective of the outcome of these judicial proceedings today, this will hopefully help the public in understanding some of the challenges faced by all professional partners involved.
"We thank the community for their support and understanding throughout."
