Police hunt van which nearly hit 16 children

Wednesday 16 May 2018

Jersey Police are hunting for a white van which they believe could have seriously injured a group of nursery children.

They say it happened last Thursday morning just after 10:00, "...at the pedestrian controlled crossing on La Route De La Haule at the Perquage Path that leads to Sandybrook."

It's alleged that a group of 16 nursery school children and five members of staff, all wearing high visibility clothing, were waiting to cross the road.

The Police have issued a statement saying that when "...the lights had changed to red and traffic had stopped, seeing the green man the group began to cross, when a white van travelling west appeared from behind the stationary traffic on the wrong side of the road and cut across the crossing, through the red light to turn right in to a driveway."

They say that no one was hurt, but they want to trace any witnesses. People with information are asked to get in contact on 612612 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
