Local French nationals have been given the opportunity to vote by proxy in Jersey via a “procuration de vote.”
Islanders in Jersey got to the polls in the island's next General Election in June, but elections in neighbouring France are also fast approaching.
French nationals living locally have been reminded that they can “nominate a trusted person to vote on their behalf” for the upcoming French election, via a procuration de vote or vote by attorney.
La Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche are assisting locals with processing their votes in this manner, for what they describe as an “election expected to be closely fought.”
Between Monday February 14 and Thursday 17, from 09:00 - 12:00 and 14:00 - 18:00, La Maison de la Normandie et de la Manche at 71 Halkett Place, St Helier is open to visitors wishing to arrange their proxy vote. No prior appointments are necessary for the walk-in service.
Once a person has been nominated, a procuration de vote can then be created under the supervision of a visiting official from The French Consulate General in London.
