The first volunteer has signed up to help at the NatWest Island Games but organisers are on the hunt for at least another 400 Games Makers for next summer's event.

The Education department plans to spend £5.4 million improving sporting facilities ahead of the Games which are attracting around 3,000 athletes from 24 different islands, competing in 14 different sports around the Island. But the volunteers are needed to ensure it all runs smoothly.

They’ll be trained early next year and will be responsible for a range of different roles from meeting and greeting visitors, spectator services, accredidation and administration to marshalling, media roles, and attaché work.

Chief Games Maker Cliff Chipperfield said: “Waitrose Games Makers will play a vital role when we host the Games next year. They were the lifeblood of the Olympic Games in London 2012 and made a huge difference. We hope to emulate that in Jersey.

‘While next year’s NatWest Island Games will be a great celebration of sport, their delivery will be underpinned by the hard work and dedication of an outstanding group of volunteers. We see this as a great opportunity to involve a large number of Islanders and we welcome applications from all members of our community over the age of 16.”

Interviews will be held in May and June and if you want to be in the running for the Games Makers team you have until 30 June to apply.

Full details of the roles can be found at www.jersey2015.com/gamesmakers
