Sand Street car park – Sunday restrictions and closures

Sunday 10 July 2016

Improvement works will be carried out to the entrance and exit of Sand Street multi-storey car park over three Sundays in the coming weeks.

As part of the refurbishment project that is currently underway in the car park, work has to be done that will restrict access to the car park between 8am to 8pm on the following Sundays: (today) July 10, 24, 31.

The work has been scheduled on a Sunday to minimise disruption to users and may be noisy at times.

The refurbishment project has seven floors virtually completed. In order to keep this popular shopping car park open as much as possible, the refurbishment is being programmed in phases, with a few floors being worked on at a time.

As well as repairs, improvements will also be made to the car park. There will be more undercover bicycle parking available. The amount and size of parent and child parking bays will be doubled from four to eight, and for convenience they will all be located together on the fourth floor. The disabled parking bays will also be increased in size.

Repairs will be made to the concrete floors by overlaying them with a coloured waterproof surface. The concrete decks have suffered from salt increase over the years and now need to be waterproofed.  Other concrete surfaces such as walls and stairwells will be cleaned, inspected, repaired and repainted.

Additional shopper parking is being provided at Pier Road multi-storey car park and the Esplanade.

This project is being undertaken as part of the public car park maintenance programme to extend the life of the car park and provide a better customer experience.
