Sci-fi fans in for space-tacular weekend

Saturday 23 June 2018

A sci-fi spectacular will be taking over the Radisson Blu and Opera House this weekend, as Galaxy celebrates all things out of this world

Prestige Events are giving sci-fi fans the chance to watch their favourite films, see live shows and even meet some original Star Wars trilogy actors. Similar to the renowned Comic Con, Galaxy is aiming to give fans the chance to immerse themselves in the sci-fi world they normally see on film and TV.

The event is spread over the weekend and kicked off with a screening of "Rogue One – A Star Wars Story" on Friday.

Today at the Opera House, fans will be able to see 'E.T. – Extra Terrestrial' at 15:00, then a Galaxy Live Show at 19:00, followed by a screening of Blade Runner at 21:30.

Pictured: Boogie Storm will be on stage on Saturday and Sunday.

The Live Show will see music themes from beloved classic sci-fi movies played by Jersey Premier Brass, a LED and laser performance by Cyber Kydd and some killer moves by Boogie Storm. The Start Wars Jersey Garrison and Archon Academy will also be on stage acting out battle scenes.

Galaxy isn’t just for the avid Star Wars fans, however. Doctor Who, Back to the Future and many other fandoms are catered for, with life-size models, props and movie replicas being showcased for all fans to enjoy at the Galaxy Exhibition Centre. Open all day from 10:00 to 18:00 at the Radisson Blu, and held in support of Headway Jersey, it will also include a replica of the 'Back to the Future' time machine, the infamous DeLorean, which was built by members of the Movie A-Car Restoration Team will also be on display.

Organisers promise "an amazing Sci-Fi experience for the whole family with life size props dressed up in sets or scenes, amazing photo opportunities, wonderful Sci-Fi themed soundtracks, arcade machines, virtual reality gaming, console gaming and cosplay. We have lots of activities planned for our younger visitors from special appearances, the Jedi Academy training, face-painting and more!"

Dressing up is highly encouraged and there will be prizes for the top cosplay, for children and adults.

VIP ticket holders will get the chance to meet special guests Tim Rose, Paul Blake, Femi Taylor and Richard Oldfield, where they will get an autograph and photo with the original Star Wars alumni from 10:30 to 16:40 at the Radisson.

To round off the jam-packed weekend, a screening of Back to the Future will be held at 15:00 on Sunday at the Opera House, followed by the Live Show at 19:00 and finally The Terminator at 21:30.

Like Saturday, the Galaxy Exhibition Centre will be open all day Sunday. VIPs can meet the guests between 13:30 and 16:00. If you haven’t bought a VIP ticket for the entire weekend, you can buy a separate one for Sunday for your chance to see the actors in the flesh.

Prestige Events is owned by a husband and wife duo, who are both sci-fi enthusiasts. They created the company to organise themed events in the island. One of the pair, Michael Lopes, commented: “We wanted to do something that wouldn’t just be a ‘cool’ event but would give people the opportunity to attend something they wouldn’t otherwise.

“We really hope people enjoy it and that we can make it into something annual.”
