Second searches for around 30 sites in Adrian Lynch investigation

Friday 10 June 2016

Police officers will be checking around 30 sites over the coming month for any trace of missing 20-year-old Adrian Lynch.

It’s now more than six months since Adrian disappeared on his way home from a night out, and police are re-checking the sites to verify that there’s no trace of the missing man.

The police have emphasised that the checks – which are expected to be completed in around a month, unless officers have to be taken off the case and put on other duties – are about verifying and double-checking original leads, and are not down to new information that has come forward since a £10,000 reward was offered for information that leads to police finding Adrian.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Turner said that property owners had been supportive of the investigation so far, and asked them to bear with the police while they complete the final checks.

He said: “Search records relating to about 700 individual searches have been reviewed and in a small percentage of cases we are seeking to double check, verify and clarify the information recorded.

“We will be liaising with property owners in this relatively small number of cases, and I apologise in advance to those people for any further inconvenience in this respect.

“It is important however that we work to rule out any doubts we may have about particular sites, not only for the benefit of Adrian’s family and the investigation but also for property and landowners.

“The cooperation of property owners and the community overall has been magnificent throughout the previous searches and the investigation, and I would ask for continuing support and patience whilst we undertake this important work.”

The police have emphasised that despite thousands of man-hours being put into Operation Panama – the codename for the search effort – there is still no evidence that points to foul play or to third party involvement in the disappearance of Adrian, who vanished around the Carrefour Selous area in the early morning of 5 December.

The £10,000 reward is available to anyone who gives information, even anonymously, that leads to the resolution of the search.

Anyone with information can call the States of Jersey Police on 612612, the independent charity Crimestoppers free on 0800 555111, or can pass on what they know via the Crimestoppers website.
