Hotel group raises £13.5k for charity to celebrate 100 years

Monday 05 December 2022

Seymour Hotel Group has raised £13,500 for three local charities in honour of its 100 years serving the island, with the help of art, teddy bears, and wine.

The charities were chosen by the team at Seymour Hotels from a shortlist back in 2020: Holidays for Heroes, the Jersey RNLI and Jersey Hospice.

Holidays for Heroes Jersey offers past and present members of the Armed Forces, with injuries in mind or body attributable to their service, a week’s holiday in Jersey, with their partners and children.

Jersey Hospice Care provides specialist palliative care for everyone who requires it, and the RNLI saves lives around Jersey’s coast, and has done so continually for over 130 years.

In addition to direct contributions from guests, fundraising efforts took many forms.

The Seymour Group produced a range of cuddly ‘centenary bears’, with £1 from the sale each bear going to charity. Seymour Hotels also produced their own brand of wine in honour of the centenary, with a percentange of the sale going to charity.

Local artist Ian Rolls was also commissioned to paint a number of the Seymour Group's most iconic venues The prints were for sale, and a percentage would go into the pot.

Matt Seymour commented: “We have been hugely supported by our incredibly generous customers and guests… for over 100 years we have been reliant on the support on the community, so its hugely important that we give back and support them. It’s the least we can do.”

Matt explained that Seymour Hotels hoped to offer each of the chosen charities its own function a venue of their choice, but was unable to do this as a result of the pandemic. However, the group has been raising money ever since, and officially handed over the cheque to each of the three charities on Friday.

Richard Harwood from Holidays for Heroes Jersey said: “Holidays for Heroes Jersey are exceptionally grateful to not only be a beneficiary of the Seymour 100 celebrations but also for the care and attention our guests have received throughout the year.

"The Seymour Group have been remarkable supporters of the Charity since inception and we would not be able to welcome as many guests as we do without their continued support."

Mike Palfreman, the CEO of Jersey Hospice, added: "We rely hugely on our community, local people, and local companies, to make all this possible.

"Today it costs £16,400 every day to deliver our services with nearly 90% of this raised by the community – through fundraising and our retail stores. We are extremely grateful to Seymour Hotels Group for supporting Jersey Hospice Care throughout their centenary year and beyond."

Seymour Hotels offers support to charities all year round, and charities are encouraged to contact them should they require function venues or potential raffle prizes.
