Jersey Water hopes to see money come flooding in at Val de la Mare next month when the company holds its first ever car boot sale to help the 400 or so Islanders who’ll be diagnosed with cancer this year and need to have chemo.
All the proceeds from the big car boot sale on Sunday 11 May will go to the company’s selected charity for 2014 – Friends of Jersey Oncology (FOJO) which helps provides special patient packs to help make the side effects of chemo more bearable.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure as the saying goes – and there will be plenty of treasure to be found at the reservoir – 80 car booters will be selling their wares on the side of the dam.
Chairperson of Jersey Water’s Charity Committee Cheryl Kaye said: “We wanted to provide a fundraising event, to not only raise awareness of the charity but one that would encourage all ages in the Community to get involved.
“By using one of our most popular sites, Val De Mare Reservoir (at the Dam end at St Ouen), we know we have a great location to provide sufficient space for pitches and parking. Car Boot Sales are popular across the Island and we hope as the weather is getting better it will provide an opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, and also help support a very worthy cause.”

There will be parking on site on the day for both buyers and sellers. Jersey Water says you can access the site by driving along La Route du Moulin.
