Pupils from Springfield school have put their writing skills to the test to pen their own nursery rhyme-inspired pieces.
The whole school writing competition aimed to help improve writing, as part of a Springfield School's development plan this year.
The children submitted their entries, based around the theme of Nursery Rhymes, over the last few weeks and Caroline Whitehead, CYPES Advisor, Suzanne Conoops, former CYPES Senior Advisor, and local author Penny Byrne carried out the judging.
They deliberated for a whole morning and decided on a winner for each year group, who won prize vouchers and a certificate.They were Tom Everett (Reception), Olive Baines (Year 10, Aiden Camara (Y2), Adam Wojtaszewski (Y3), Ruby Le Gros (Y4), Erika Dutu/Mia Logue (Y5) and Iris Anghelina (Y6).
“This has been a fantastic opportunity for us to maintain the high profile of writing this year in school," Mal Robson, headteacher of Springfield School, said. "The writing that the children produced for the competition was lively, engaging and sometimes quite humorous.
"I’m so proud of all the children for taking the time outside of school to really demonstrate what great writers they are. My thanks must also go our three judges who gave of their time freely to support us with this venture. Their expertise and encouragement has been brilliant.”
The judges added: “We really enjoyed the opportunity to read all these wonderfully creative pieces and loved all the different approaches to the nursery rhyme theme. We were genuinely so impressed by the level of all your work.”
