St. Brelade fire accidentally caused by children

Tuesday 30 May 2017

It's emerged that three boys accidentally caused the fire that destroyed 1,600 sqm of open land between the Railway Walk and La Moye Golf Club in St. Brelade on Liberation Day.

The land owner decided not to press charges, and so the boys won't be prosecuted.

After starting the fire by accident during the afternoon of Liberation Day, the boys ran to alert their parents. A team of five firefighters was able to bring the fire under control quickly although the Fire Service said that if the wind had been blowing in a different direction, the outcome could have been much worse.

Following the incident, they issued a warning to the public urging people to be careful when disposing of their BBQ's or cigarettes and when having bonfires.
