Part of a key road in St. Brelade will be closed this week while highway maintenance officials investigate and attempt to repair a 30cm “depression” which mysteriously appeared in the road.
The hole appeared on the surface of a section of Mont Les Vaux opposite St. Aubin Church on the weekend of 10 June 2022.
After further investigation work on Friday, it became clear that the affected section of Mont Les Vaux would need to remain closed until Friday 24 June, according to Infrastructure officials and Gov.je. However, the parish Constable later stated on Twitter on Sunday night that he believed the work would only last two to three days.
"Extensive repairs are needed to the drainage infrastructure in the area, as well as the repair of the road itself... a depression recently appeared in the road, with voids (holes) then found deeper under the surface," they said.
They apologised to islanders for any inconvenience caused and thanked them for your patience while the issue is dealt with.
The section of road will be closed at all times while the work is underway, and a temporary northbound one-way system will be placed on Le Mont des Longchamps to help traffic movement, Infrastructure officials have said. Constable Mike Jackson also said Rue de Haut will be made one way up from tomorrow morning to ease congestion during the closure.

Access to premises and businesses will be maintained.
