The Jersey branch of an African-owned bank celebrated Africa Day this year by donating books to primary school students to promote diverse and inclusive literature.
To mark the occasion, held each year on 25 May, Standard Bank staff members visited pupils at Rouge Bouillon school to deliver books which are either written by African authors or incorporate African themes.
Barry Cairney, a Non-Financial Risk Specialist at Standard Bank Offshore, said: “It was great to speak to the children and teachers and be able to share a small piece of our business’s rich African history."

"Our island is so diverse and being able to create this small initiative that promotes that to the next generation is a great thing to do," he added.
Standard Bank provided the books as part of a library space dedicated to African stories and authors.
Charles Molteno, CEO and Island Head for Standard Bank Jersey, said: "Witnessing our colleagues in Jersey come together to celebrate Africa Day locally, embracing the vibrant tapestry of our heritage and purpose, fills me with immense pride."
