More than a dozen Jersey police officers are 'embracing the tache' this Movember to raise funds for a mental health charity that has worked closely with the force over the last two years.

They are seeking to raise £1,200 via a JustGiving page for Rock2Recovery – which supports armed forces personnel, veterans, emergency service workers and their families affected by stress.

Chief Inspector Chris Beechey, who is also the wellbeing lead within the States of Jersey police, said: "Throughout the year, in accordance with our overall wellbeing strategy for the organisation, we of course look for opportunities to focus on particular elements of that within the workplace."

He continued: "We were aware that November traditionally focuses on men's mental health, hence the synergy between Movember and part of our overall strategy.

"We have somewhere between 15 and 20 people who have chosen to do it."

He explained that the force has a wellbeing team capable of signposting officers and staff to a range of services depending on their needs, with one of the "key groups" being Rock2Recovery.

"The range of support [they provide] is everything from a telephone call to an in-person conversation, counselling session – depending upon the individual need," he added, noting that those involved with the charity "have their own experiences within the same field".

Mr Beechey added: "They have been a strong supporter of ours, they worked very closely with us on the major incidents that occurred a couple of years ago and that relationship has extended up until this time, and we hope they'll be a strong supporter to the future.

"So anything we can do to raise their profile – and at the same time raise money – it's all going to a good cause."
