Student-made film to be showcased before Lieutenant Governor

A short film made by La Passerelle students with the help of a Jersey-based production company will be showcased with a local screening before the Lieutenant Governor this week.

With the backing of Green Eye Productions, students at La Passerelle wrote and produced 'The Journey', also known in Jèrriais as 'Lé Viage'.

Described as "a story of triumph over adversity", the short film focuses on a girl's relationship with her horse and how, despite a bad experience where she falls off, she is able to "build back trust and try again".

The synopsis explains: "The message of this film is about how we all go through tough times in life and this is about one person’s way to deal with it. A story about ‘getting back in the saddle’."

Students chose Jèrriais for the dialogue "to deepen the connection to nature, ancestral roots and the land".

The short film will be screened locally before Lieutenant-Governor Vice-Admiral Jerry Kyd, as well as some Government ministers, later this week.

And because of BAFTA film member Julie Daly-Wallman's involvement in the project though Green Eye Productions, there is a possibility that it could go on to receive a full BAFTA screening.

Describing the film, the students wrote: "The Journey portrays the emotions and the journey of life.

"It's about understanding for every problem big or small there will be a solution, you just don’t know it yet.

"Self discovery is one of the main themes in this short film, the story emphases the qualities of trust, empathy, kindness, courage, and a reminder to never give up."
