Thai update: police post reward to catch killers

Thai police have put up a reward of more than £13,000 to try to catch the murderers of Jerseyman David Miller and a young woman from the UK who were found dead on a Thai beach a fortnight ago.

It has been two weeks since the brutal murders of David (24) and Hannah Witheridge (23) from the UK, on a beach on the diving resort island of Koh Tao.

Although the Thai police have questioned several people and started DNA testing of people who were in the Island at the time of the crime, they do not appear to be much closer to a suspect or suspects.

The only thing that they have said is that they sure that more than one person was involved.

David’s heartbroken father told the press a week ago that police had suggested to him that his son had been going to the young woman’s aid when she was being attacked, before they were both brutally killed.

The BBC quoted Colonel Kissana Phathanacharoen of the Royal Thai Police as offering the 700,000 baht – or £13,000 – reward for information leading to the arrests of the culprits.

He said: “We're trying to narrow our inquiries and collect more evidence. We're encouraging the public who may have information to come forward.

"We're checking DNA but this is not the only thing we are looking at to prosecute the suspects."
