Update: Three questioned over Thai murder

Tuesday 16 September 2014

Three migrant workers are being questioned by Thai police today in connection with the brutal murders of a young Jerseyman and an English woman found dead on a beach in the diving resort island of Koh Tao.

It has been reported that three Burmese men are being questioned by officers investigating the deaths of David Miller (24), a former Victoria College student, and Hannah Witheridge (25) from the UK.

The three men were apparently arrested in raids on bungalows on Koh Tao, and police have seized four mobile phones to check whether they might have belonged to either of the victims.

Officers have also removed clothes and DNA samples from the men who had reportedly been drinking in the area.

Thai police have also confirmed that they are not stopping people coming to or leaving the island, but that they do have officers stationed at the ports.

People on the island of Koh Tao – a divers’ resort popular with backpackers – held a candlelit vigil for the dead pair last night.
