Tourist jailed after filming himself sexually assaulting woman at Guernsey carnival

Saturday 09 December 2023

A tourist who filmed himself sexually assaulting a woman during a tug-of-war at a Guernsey's festival has been sent to prison.

Michael O'Rahilly (46) was visiting the island over summer from his home in County Dublin, Ireland.

The offence took place in broad daylight during a tug-of-war event at Crown Pier at the island's annual Harbour Carnival.

O'Rahilly filmed himself committing his assault on his female victim, who he did not know.

Other people in the crowd also witnessed his behaviour, helping to convict him.

Last week, he was jailed for 18 months and was told he'll be subject to an extended sentence licence for three years on his release, along with notification requirements for 10 years, which includes him having to notify police of his address, any off island trips and other details.
