Treasury Minister Susie Pinel has announced that she will not be standing in June’s election.
The St. Clement Deputy, who was first elected in 2011, said she would now be actively supporting candidates who are members of the Jersey Alliance party, including her fellow parish representative Lindsay Ash.
As Treasury Minister, Deputy Pinel has held the purse strings during the covid pandemic, approving the Co-funded Payroll Scheme, fiscal stimulus fund, industry support packages and other measures designed to keep the economy afloat during the disruption.
She also proposed and successfully steered through the Assembly a new era of Government borrowing totalling £1.8bn, including £756m for a new hospital.
Recently, she presented a set of annual accounts which were better than previously forecast, with the Government finishing 2021 with a £59m surplus.
She said: “I feel strongly that my time at Social Security as Assistant Minister and then Minister and my work as Treasury Minister have been productive and responsive in what have been some controversial and difficult periods.
“I now need to spend time with my family.
“Being a founder member of the Jersey Alliance, I will be actively supporting the party candidates in the election, especially those in my home parish of St. Clement.
“The teams I have had the pleasure of working with at Social Security and Treasury and, of course, in the Parish Hall in St. Clement have been brilliant, diligent and supportive.
"A huge thank you to my family and friends who have been beside me in all three elections and during the good and challenging times of being in office.”
Deputy Pinel is the third member of the Council of Ministers to announce that they are standing down in June, following Environment Minister John Young and Health Minister Richard Renouf.
The election is taking place on 22 June.
