Trio to face trial over child neglect charges

Friday 09 August 2019

Two women and a man will be facing a trial in the Magistrate's Court later this year after allegedly exposing two children to risk or harm.

One of the women is facing two charges of "intentionally or recklessly exposing to risk or harm" each of the children she was responsible for.

The other two are accused of having "aided and abetted" the child neglect offence by assisting the other woman.

All three - none of whom can be named for legal reasons - have entered 'not guilty' pleas to the charges.

One of the women is represented by Advocate Sarah Dale, while the other two are represented by Advocate Rui Tremoceiro. While the latter have been released on bail, the former is currently in custody.

They appeared in Magistrate's Court yesterday where Legal Adviser Simon Crowder presented the facts of the case to Magistrate Bridget Shaw.

The case has now been adjourned until 11 September for a pre-trial review. The three will be brought back to court for an interim hearing on 5 September.
