Tune in to young crew following Team Jersey

A team of young broadcasters will be on the air all of next week giving you the latest news on our local athletes competing in the NatWest Island Games.

The crew of Youth Arts Jersey’s under 18’s radio station Radio Youth FM (RYFM) will be following Team Jersey and going live every day from 9am until 6pm.

The young broadcasters, who are all aged between 12 and 17, have been in training for the Games and will be profiling key members of Team Jersey and those you might not have heard much about before.

Senior Youth Worker at Youth Arts Jersey Carmel Butel said: “It will be an excellent opportunity for all of our young crew to be involved in such a high profile event. They have all been working extremely hard on both their interviewing and commentating skills as they want to give their listeners the best Games coverage possible.”

Team Jersey’s general manager Jeff Reed said: “I am really excited about this collaboration with RYFM. What a fantastic way for the people of Jersey, especially young people, to follow the sporting achievements of Team Jersey throughout the Games.”

13 year-old RYFM member Cat Redman Scott said: “I have been part of the RYFM crew for almost three years now and I am very excited at the prospect of reporting live from the Games. It will be an honour to meet and correspond with the members of Team Jersey and follow their progress throughout.”

The radio station, that started out in a broom cupboard at the old La Motte street Centre, was set up by young members of Youth Arts Jersey back in 2012. It's now moved to its brand new studio at the St James Centre - the headquarters of Jersey Youth Service.

ESC Minister Deputy Rod Bryans added: “It’s great to see our young people making the most of the facilities at the St James Centre in such an innovative way. It’s another great example of how proactive our Youth Service is and is an alternative way for islanders to find out what’s happening at the NatWest Island Games even if they can’t go and watch Team Jersey themselves.”
