'Vaccine passports' now available for islanders who had a jab outside Jersey

Islanders who had one of their doses of the covid vaccine outside of the island will be eligible for a Jersey vaccine passport, it has been confirmed.

In an update that will be welcomed by returning university students, the Government announced this afternoon that islanders can get a Covid Status Certificate (CSC) by uploading one of the following via an online form:

• a Government or Health Authority issued vaccination appointment card,
• a Government or Health Authority app showing vaccination status or
• a GP record showing vaccination status.

If their application via the online form is successful, a paper certificate will be sent to their registered address up to two weeks later.

The individual will also be able to apply for a QR code to use in the French ‘Health Pass’ app system, allowing them access to public venues. 

The update follows complaints from a local campaign group for university students that this has been possible for several months in Guernsey, but not in Jersey.

“It is good that we can now resolve the issue which has been faced by a number of islanders, particularly university students who have received one dose in the UK and one dose in Jersey,” Deputy Chief Minister Senator Lyndon Farnham said.

“It will take up to two weeks for an application to be approved and a certificate issued, I’d like to urge only those islanders who are due to travel within the next few weeks to complete the form so that they receive first priority.”

57 counties worldwide now accept the Jersey secure paper certificate as proof of vaccination status for travel purposes.

Senator Farnham added: “Additionally, university students who may have delayed getting vaccinated due to worries about how the Covid Status Certificate would work should no longer be concerned, and are recommended to get their first or second dose at the Vaccination Centre before heading off to university.”    

Anyone wishing to get a first or second dose of the covid vaccine can walk into the Fort Regent Vaccination Centre at any time.
