Victoria College student takes to the skies to promote access to education

Tuesday 19 March 2024

A Victoria College bursary student is set to brave a 10,000-foot freefall later this month to highlight that someone's financial background should not be a barrier to ‘flying high’.

Sixth form pupil Isaac Tarrant will take part in a skydive on 30 March to raise money for the Victoria College Foundation, which provides bursaries and financial support to students wishing to attend the school.

The Year 13 student wants to ensure that the door of opportunity remains open to all aspiring young students regardless of their financial situation.

He said: "I have been lucky enough to have received a Victoria College bursary since I first entered Victoria College Prep in Year 3.

"Without this support, I would never have been at this school and my life would look completely different."

Isaac hopes that his skydive, which will see him free falling 10,000 feet, will help to raise awareness of the Foundation's work and inspire others to support the cause.

He has supported various other causes during his time at school, including the Bailiff Fund for Storm Ciaran's victims and the Violence Against Women and Girls Taskforce.

Victoria College Foundation said: "We are very grateful to Isaac for his commitment to supporting the Victoria College Foundation with the proceeds raised from his charity sky-dive.

"To jump from a plane at 10,000 feet to raise money to support the educational opportunities of other young people is not only extremely brave, but wonderfully altruistic."
