Four Jersey mums who broke a world record as they completed a 3,000-mile Atlantic rowing challenge have been promised a "fitting" celebration by the Bailiff upon their return to Jersey.
Julie Brady, Helene Monpetit, Rosemary Satchwell and Alison Smithurst set off from the Canary Island of La Gomera at the start of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge at 8.29am on 13 December.
Competing as Intrepid 232 – the figure representing their combined ages – the crew's boat 'Black Squid' was one of 38 taking part in the 3,000-mile race to Antigua.
On Friday, after 58 days, 12 hours and 30 minutes at sea battling gruelling conditions which towards the end pushed them to "breaking point", the team completed the crossing – arriving on shore as the world's oldest female crew to cross the Atlantic.

On Sunday, the Bailiff, Sir Timothy Le Cocq, wrote to the team.
"On behalf of the Island of Jersey I am writing to congratulate you all on a marvellous team effort in completing the Atlantic passage," he said.
"We do not underestimate what it must have taken, both physically and mentally, to complete the journey. It has clearly taken great teamwork and dedication to do what you have done and that alone would have made the people of Jersey proud. That you have set a new world record is a wonderful achievement that only adds to the pride we feel."
He added that the team had "set an excellent example to Jersey rowers and all athletes".

The Bailiff said that he hoped to be able to congratulate the team personally upon their return, adding: "My Chambers will be liaising with you and the local rowing clubs to ensure your return is marked appropriately and in a way fitting of your achievement."
"I hope you are enjoying a well-earned rest and wish you all a safe return home," he concluded.
