Wet weather warning

Islanders are being urged to take more care on the roads after the emergency services had to deal with a series of road accidents in the wet weather.

The Fire Service were called to two separate accidents where drivers had lost control of their vehicles due to the wet and slippery conditions.

The first was around 15:00 near Queen's Valley. Firefighters were on their way to help, when they were called about a vehicle crashing into the back of another one. No one was seriously hurt in either crash.

The Fire Service has urged islanders drive carefully in wet weather, asking, "...motorists to consider reducing their speed and increasing their braking distances."

A spokesperson from the Jersey Met Department has said: “There are bands of rain that have been affecting Jersey earlier this morning and they are expected to affect us for the rest of the morning and into lunchtime, but should be clearing as move into the afternoon.

“Of course, when we are affected by bands of rain, people should drive appropriately according to the weather conditions.”

Earlier this morning, there have been several other problems on the road; one involving a cyclist near the Parade and another involving two vehicles in Rue des Hammonets, St Lawrence.

As well as warning motorists to take care on the roads, the Police has also urged islanders to avoid driving at speed through puddles after several complaints of pedestrians being splashed due to inconsiderate driving.
