Whose kid has the most talent?

Dozens of Islanders have shown they may be small but they are big on talent and are hoping to shine on the stage this weekend and wow the judges in the final of Jersey’s new talent show.

Singers, musicians, poets, dancers, gymnasts and hula-hoopers have made it into the final 41 of “Jersey’s (Kids) Got Talent” and will be performing in front of hundreds of people at a black tie event at the Hotel de France.

More than 300 youngsters, as young as six, entered the competition run by Centre Point Trust. The charity hopes people will support all the finalists and help kick off fundraising for a new football pitch and playground facilities at its childcare centre.

The charity’s Chief Executive Officer Jane Moy said: “We wanted to do something special for the 30^th anniversary year and we have been overwhelmed by the interest from young people in taking part in the talent show.

“We were also delighted to have been assisted by 10 experts in the field who sat on the judges panel and had the very difficult decision of selecting the finalists following 2 full days of first auditions and a series of semi-finals.”

The finalists will be performing in front of some well known local faces. Ex-Channel 103 DJ Peter Mac is compèring the evening and ITV Channel Television’s Sophia Bird, Mark McQuillan and Rob Jones are judging the competition.

The youngsters who will all have their eye on the top prize - a trip for four to Disneyland Paris - are: 

Junior Singers (ages 6 to 11) - Epic (Fabian Moffat and Olivia Ferguson), Erika Van Halm, Erin Machin, Evie Laurie;  

Senior Singers -  Confrontation (Charlie Norton and Sara Strudwick), Jessie Byatt, Laila Paul, Morgan Gregory;

Dancers - Libby Powell-Jones, Lil’ Bosses, Marco Moffa McCormick, Team Alight;

Other  - DMGA Kids – gymnastics, Isabella Birtwistle,  hula-hooping, Alex Lee-Briard – violinist, Madeleine Byrne – poetry

State Street’s Managing Director in Jersey Mike Newton said: “As long standing supporters of Centre Point, State Street was delighted to be able to make a contribution in their anniversary year.

“We look forward to the black tie event on October 4th and we encourage others from the business community to reserve tables for what I am sure will be an entertaining evening as well as a valuable fund raiser.”
