Will your stamp get the royal seal of approval?

Tuesday 21 October 2014

Can you make a stamp on your post with a design fit for the Queen?

If so, you could be one of ten lucky winners in Jersey Post’s new competition who will get to see their stamp sent to Buckingham Palace for approval before it gets posted all over the Island and the UK next year.

The company is on the lookout for designs that capture what the Island means to you.

Their “My Jersey” competition is open to all ages and they hope to see lots of your favourite places or local delicacies, a significant historical event or a person from history.

Entries can be in any medium, whether it’s colouring pencils, felt tips, paint or photography.

Jersey Post’s Philatelic Marketing Executive Rachel MacKenzie said: “We’re always looking for new inspiration and fresh ideas for our stamp issues and we wanted to launch a competition that the whole island could get involved in without putting restrictions on age or the art materials that people prefer to use. Jersey has a wealth of creative talent and we’re confident we’re going to see some really brilliant designs.

“Excitingly, all Jersey stamps are required to go through a royal approval process which means those entries chosen as finalists will be sent to Buckingham Palace for consideration by Her Majesty The Queen.”

You have until Friday 27 March next year to come up with your design and could be in with a chance of winning one of many local prizes including a year’s family membership to Jersey Heritage and Durrell Wildlife Park, an “Escape from Elizabeth Castle” adventure day with Jersey Adventures, dinner for two at Longueville Manor, a one night stay at a Jersey Heritage holiday let or £200 in vouchers to spend at Imagination and the Powerhouse Jersey.

The winners will be announced in June next year and the new stamps will go on sale next November.

You can pick up an entry form at the Broad Street Post Office, the Harbour Gallery and Jersey Heritage sites and Jersey Post will be posting packs of entry forms to schools, clubs and societies across the Island.
