Writers retreat to Jersey

Saturday 14 March 2015

A group of playwrights, screenwriters and comedy writers are preparing for a special writing break in the Island.

They’ll spend six days at a writing retreat organised by the Jersey Arts Trust who hope the residency project will lead to more happy endings.

Jersey Arts Trust Director Tom Dingle said: "Jersey is a great place to develop ideas and have the time and space to focus on one's work. This has been evident through our past residencies, where just last year there were two plays in the West End, two in New York and four on the Fringe in London that had all been developed here in the Island as part of our programme.”

Michael Pearce, John Henry Falle and Hannah Patterson are all originally from Jersey and have all gone on to make names for themselves – Michael as a screenwriter, John as a comedy writer, and Hannah as a play and scriptwriter. They are all now living in London.

They will be back in the Island a week on Monday and will be joined by playwright Adam Barnard, Jay Foreman who is a musical comedian and upcoming playwright Alexandra Wood.

The group will spend most of the week writing new material but you can pick up some tips of the trade from them when they host a special writing workshop at the Digital Jersey Hub on Tuesday 24 March from 7pm until 9pm in conjunction with the Jersey Writers Forum.

Mr Dingle said: “The writers not only develop their own work but offer insight and feedback to the local writing community and we're really pleased to be teaming up with the Jersey Writers Forum to offer a discussion evening on the Tuesday night. It should be a great opportunity to discuss script writing in all of its forms in an informal setting and it is particularly gratifying that it will be partly led by three local writers who are making a name for themselves on the wider international arena."

The evening is free of charge but you need to book a place by emailing info@arts.je or by calling 617521.
