A competition-winning young inventor from Jersey has seen her ‘seater scooter’ design brought to life.
Beaulieu student Ameya Colston-Weeks’s talent as an engineer was discovered during the national 'If you were an engineer, what would you do?' competition.
Ameya was just 10 years old when she entered the Leaders Award competition along with nearly 800 other young islanders flexing their engineering muscles.
Judges were so impressed by her ‘Seater Scooter’ that it was selected to be made into a prototype by engineering students at Kingston University.
This month, she finally got to see her design in the flesh in London.
Ameya’s trip also saw her meet the Women In STEM award winner 2021, Chère Reade-Edwards, who is an aerospace senior technician.

She also had a tour of engineering facilities at Roehampton Vale.
In January, islanders will also get the opportunity to see Ameya’s creation up close when it comes to the island as part of Skills Jersey’s ongoing promotion of STEM skills across schools in collaboration with Jersey Electricity.
