Young unemployed raise money for charity

Saturday 22 February 2014

Twelve young unemployed Islanders have been walking miles and hope their animal antics will help local charity Mind Jersey.

The Prince’s Trust students are three weeks into their 12-week personal development course and chose to help the charity, which provides support to Islanders affected by mental distress, as part of their community challenge.

They hope walking from town to Corbière dressed up as animals will raise £250 which they plan to use to give one of Mind’s gardens a makeover for the charity’s clients to enjoy.

The Trust’s team leader Sue Fernandes said: It’s about learning new skills but also understanding and learning about the community.”

The students plan to get gardening next week.

The Prince’s Trust’s team programme is a 12-week personal development course which gives the students work experience, qualifications and practical skills. The course helps the students develop skills to get back into training, education or employment.
