From homemade chocolate bars to her favourite "bangers" to play behind the wheel, a local singer/songwriter has shared how she relaxes... all the way from Australia.
Phoebe Over is among the island’s brightest new musical talents from recent years.
She is known for acoustic-led songs expressing teen angst and emotional vulnerability inspired by Lily Allen, Jorja Smith and Billie Eilish among others.
Phoebe’s song 'Listen' was played on Radio One by Huw Stephens in summer 2020, followed by the release of her debut single 'Rehab' the following year.
Phoebe is currently travelling the East Coast of Australia, and aims to write and release more music on the road.
In the meantime, she put aside her guitar to share her favourite ways to unwind.
My home-made 'healthy' snicker bars! These are made from dates, peanut butter and melted chocolate. I think the recipe uses some fancy dark vegan chocolate but I can’t resist Dairy Milk!! I am a sucker for snacks when I want to unwind, which is probably a very common thing.
I’m in Australia at the moment and the chocolate is not the same over here!! They put something in it to stop it melting, so I am missing my home comforts.
Another quick thing to add is mashed potato… the best!

Although I love a glass of wine to unwind, nothing beats a Tetley cup of tea!
A bit controversial with the Tetley.. people say Yorkshire is best but Tetley has a special place in my heart.
I am definitely one of those people who is always listening to music. I’m always taking inspiration from other musicians, listening to the different layers in songs and analysing how/what they’ve done!
So sometimes it’s nice to have a drive in my van, blast some bangers such as 'Love Song' by Sara Bareilles or 'Young Hearts Run Free' by Candi Staton and just sing a long!
My favourite band at the moment is Palace; their songs are so chilled and easy to listen to at any point in the day. If I’m wanting to unwind and play an album, it’s definitely 'So Long Forever' – check it out!

Since being on the road in Australia, I’ve finally had the time to sit back and read more books! Peter James has some amazing books and one I loved recently was based in Jersey Hospital (where I worked) called ‘I Follow You’.
I’m loving giving myself the time to actually sit and be in my own head for a while. If I love a book I will read it in two days and just let my imagination run away. Another great one is ‘Dead Simple’ which had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
I am a sucker for a puzzle! It is the most relaxing and infuriating thing all in one.
I think again, like reading, it’s allowing myself the time to just sit and focus away from my phone, and put my brain to good use.

Songwriting is another thing to do when I want to unwind. Most of my songs are super chilled and tend to be a bit sad.. but I think that’s because I tend to write when I’m in a certain headspace. It’s that expressive brain dump that makes me feel a little lighter and then I can enjoy some Hell’s Kitchen to finish off the evening.
Although, I am 21 and so a good scroll on TikTok to make me laugh always wins too!
