READER LETTER: Investigation needed into Jersey Reds disaster

Friday 29 September 2023

Dear Editor, For many of us, whether rugby fans or not, this is shocking and sad news. There are lots of unanswered questions which should be fully investigated – the initial excuses just aren't acceptable.

Those whose livelihoods are affected must be given immediate financial support, albeit temporary, from Government resources and not have to rely on public funding.

It is an appalling situation. Surely everyone employed in commerce or a professional sport should be covered for such eventualities?

For so long, sport and the arts have been neglected in Jersey and shame on those who could have done more. Over the years, certain States Members have tried to gain more support, without success.

They are such an important part of island life, involving all age groups, and should be included in Government expenditure.

Another nail in the coffin!
