Channel Islands pétanque teams compete in European Men’s Triples

Thursday 28 September 2023

Both Jersey and Guernsey pétanque teams competed in the European Men’s Triples in France last week.

A total of 34 nations took part in the competition which was held at the Boulodrome in Albertville, south-eastern France.

It was the first time that Guernsey had entered the European Men’s Triples, and they lost all five matches in the qualifying round to find themselves bottom of the table.

They were then entered into the preliminary round of the Nations Cup – for the teams that don’t finish in the top 16 – where they lost to Wales.

Earlier in the competition, the Guernsey team found themselves 10-2 up against Jersey only for their Channel Island neighbours to win the next eleven points to complete an amazing come-back.

It was one of two victories achieved by Jersey, the other being against Lithuania.

Jersey finished in 28th place overall and went through to the first round proper of the Nations Cup only to lose 13-7 to Norway, although they put up quite a fight having been 12-nil down at one stage.
